The definition of a container is that all items that can be packed on a ship can be transported in a container. Containers come in a variety of sizes and can be stacked in deep holds or onboard throughout a cargo ship. The container transportation is sealed in advance, and all goods are inside it, providing a safe overseas transportation method.
Bulk carrier: a ship that generally transports bulk dry bulk cargo such as grain, coal, ore, salt, and cement in bulk can be called a dry bulk carrier or simply a bulk carrier. Because the dry bulk carrier has a single type of cargo, it does not need to be packed into bundles, bags, or boxes for transportation, it is not afraid of extrusion, and it is easy to load and unload, so they are all single-deck ships. If the total weight is more than 50,000 tons, generally no loading equipment is installed.
As the stowage factors (volume per tonne of cargo) of grain, coal and ore vary widely, the required cargo hold volumes, hull structures, layouts and equipment vary in many ways. Therefore, in general, only ships carrying grain, coal and other cargoes are called bulk carriers, while ships carrying ore and other cargoes with a smaller stowage factor are called ore carriers.
