40’ Dry Container Will Go Up By $500, Which Will Be Implemented On October 16th.

On October 5th, Hapag-Lloyd, a shipping company, issued a notice that it would increase the comprehensive rate increase surcharge (GRI) from Asia to Latin America.

Hapag-Lloyd said in the notice:
The GRI of 20 'and 40' dry containers (including high cubic equipment and 40 'non-operative reefer containers) from Asia (excluding Japan) to the west coast of Latin America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central America is about to rise. This GRI is applicable to all containers from October 16, 2023 and is valid until further notice.
The details for this increase are listed below:
20' Dry Container: USD 250
40' Dry Container: USD 500
40' High Cube Container: USD 500
40' Non-operative Reefer Container: USD 500

Hapag-Lloyd pointed out that the new GRI is applicable to goods from Asia: (excluding Japan), specifically covering the following countries and regions: China, Macau, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos and Brunei.
To the west coast of Latin America: Mexico, Caribbean and Central America, covering the following countries: Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia, Peru, Chile, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Honduras, Guatemala, Panama.
