As the situation in the Red Sea continues to deteriorate, shipping companies have announced the suspension of the Red Sea route, suspension of bookings, and refusal to accept cargo. Following the four major shipping giants announcement of the suspension of the Red Sea route, HMM, due to an attack on a cargo ship, also suspended the route Yang Ming Marine Transportation also joined the ranks of suspension. In addition, COSCO Shipping, Evergreen, ONE, and Orient Overseas OOCL suspended red sea route bookings.
In the latest news, a merchant vessel of HMM was attacked in the Red Sea; thus, HMM has become the latest liner company to suspend its Red Sea voyage due to the attack. A spokesman for HMM said that due to the intensified geopolitical risks in the Red Sea region, it decided to avoid the Suez Canal and detour to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.
On the 18th, the official website of Yang Ming Marine Transportation released an announcement that, in view of the persistent risk of recent attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden and in order to ensure the safety of Yang Ming's crews, ships, and cargoes, ships that may be sailing through high-risk areas at present or in the next two weeks will immediately detour to the Cape of Good Hope or wait in a safe place.

According to media reports on the 18th, BP said that in view of the deteriorating security situation for shipping in the Red Sea, the company announced the suspension of all its oil tanker transportation via the Red Sea.
On the 18th, a surging news reporter from the freight forwarding side was exclusively informed that, affected by the international situation, COSCO Shipping, Orient Overseas, and Evergreen Marine had verbally notified the suspension of the red sea route goods receiving. Ocean NetLink Shipping ONE also verbally notified the suspension of the Red Sea route cargo receiving.

It was mentioned in the press release that Maersk and CMA CGM notified Maersk earlier in the morning of December 18 that the cargo pick-up situation in the Red Sea direction would have to wait for the notification from the headquarters.
In addition, a freight forwarder said that Mediterranean Shipping Company MSC was only notified to bypass the Cape of Good Hope in Africa and did not suspend the relevant direction of cargo pickup. Hapag-Lloyd has notified, except for VIP customers, that the Middle East route, the Red Sea route, as well as the Mediterranean route of the west coast and the east coast are suspended to accept bookings, waiting for follow-up notice.
As of now, it is certain that Evergreen Marine Corp. and Orient Overseas OOCL have issued notices on their official websites suspending the receipt of import and export cargo from Israel.
Evergreen Suspends Israel Import and Export Services
Evergreen's official website issued a notice on the 18th that, in view of the dramatic escalation of the situation in the Red Sea in recent days and due to risk and security considerations, Evergreen Marine Transportation will suspend import and export services to and from Israel with immediate effect until further notice.

At the same time, Orient Overseas posted a notice on its website that due to operational issues, it will immediately stop receiving shipments to and from Israel until further notice.

ONE verbal notice to suspend cargo pickup on the Red Sea route
The surging news report pointed out that the ocean network alliance shipping ONE, at present, also verbally notified the suspension of the red sea route of goods receiving. The Caixun News Agency report is more specific; a forwarder revealed that the Ocean Network Alliance notification in January will stop receiving Israeli goods, in addition to considering the significantly increased prices of European routes. The information provided by another forwarder showed that: ONE, including AR1/MD1/MD3 routes, has stopped receiving, has been put on the booking, did not pick up the box, tube has stopped putting boxes, please arrange to return the customs clearance, has been picking up part of the box, and so on further notice.
However, no further notice has been released on the official website.
Suez Canal-Red Sea, the main international shipping channel holding Asia, Africa, Europe, and the three continents, connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean Sea-is one of the world's busiest waterways. And the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb, located at the southern end of the Red Sea, connecting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, is a ship to and from the Indian Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean between the necessary places. The strategic position is very important. Analysts are concerned that if tensions in the Red Sea and nearby waters intensify, the shipping industry will be further disrupted and the international supply chain may be severely impacted.
With more and more shipping companies avoiding the Suez Canal from the Red Sea to transfer to the Cape of Good Hope via South Africa, this will certainly lead to increased costs, freight rates, and shipping delays. At present, many shipping companies, including ONE, have also proposed that the European route will increase the price significantly, and Star also issued an updated notice on the 18th, decided to raise the FAK rate from Asia and India to the Mediterranean Sea and the Black Sea, and a new round of tariff increases is inevitable. If there is a large-scale stoppage or detour, this will be a blow to the global supply chain.
