As an alternative to the CAX route, starting in October, subject to regulatory approval, Zim will join MSC's Panda loop, named ZAX by Zim.
Zim has said it will replace its previous TFX and N2A services with new ZAO and ZOX routes, thus maintaining its links to New Zealand. Although there was no official confirmation, Alphaliner said the service could be offered through charter agreements on MSC's Kiwi Express and Capricorn loops.
Zim is in the process of reorganizing its network and terminated its Asia-US West Coast route in June of this year. The company believes that the new Asia-Australia VSA with MSC will strengthen its position in the region.
Meanwhile, MSC said that VSA, in partnership with Zim, would "enhance" its Panda service and "continue to provide premium non-stop services between Asia, Australia, and New Zealand" in addition to its Capricorn and Kiwi Express routes.
